Anecdata has its place but scientifically-conducted statistical studies will always be the gold standard. These appear to show a very low false positive rate (1 in 10,000 according to University of Chicago researchers) and a less impressive false negative rate of a few percent.

AI-generated text coaxed into existence by a skilled and thoughtful driver may have great value, but that is a distinct debate beyond the scope of such studies.
